Before you say “I can’t”, you pass by “I can.” – Part 2

In my last blog I discussed believing in yourself and choosing “I can if,” and not “I can’t because,” when faced with struggles or doubt.

Sometimes it isn’t enough to be the only one who believes in yourself – what do you do then?

The success of a journey often depends more on who you are with than where you are going.”

Surround yourself with “I can if” people.

This idea is not new.  It has been proven successful throughout history:

In the book of Ecclesiastes we read, “Though one person may be overpowered by another, two people can resist one opponent. A triple-braided rope is not easily broken.”

The ancient Greek philosopher Epictetus said, “The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best.”

In my new book The Leadership GPS, Michael Tennyson says, “A true friend doesn’t just warn you about a stone on your path that may cause you to fall; they do their best to keep you from falling.  If they can’t do that, they are there to help you up.”

My mentor and friend, John Maxwell taught me, “Every relationship in your organization will affect you one way or another. Those who do not increase you will inevitably decrease you?”

Who have you surrounded yourself with?  Are they helping you become more successful?  Do they believe in your dreams?
